Autumn Winter circa 2011
Collection: destry rides again
Inspired partly by black and white Hollywood spaghetti western films, and the glamour of Marlene Dietrich in Destry Rides Again.
The influence of the late Millicent Rogers, the Standard Oil heiress’s mixture of couture and her love for Native Amercian jewelery is apparent for this Fall/Winter 2011. Draped dresses in jersey with it’s couture feeling, contrast the rest of this sometimes rugged western attire.
Subtle details such as curved welt pocket on jacket, Paisley prints made of rhinestones on bias cut high neck ruffled blouses and rugged mens coats with alpaca sleeves. Prints such as floral Japanese kimono’ prints and ‘American Indian’ rugs made into soft blouses and ponchos, are often contrasted with silk leopard fringing.
Dior's 1955’s A-line silhouette, could be responsible for this season’s very narrow shoulders and looseness around the hips in jackets, coats and dresses. The line remains feminine, with the use of jersey, wools and silk cut on the bias, gliding with the wearing as she moves.
